Professions: Architects

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) requires its members to have professional indemnity insurance. As a result of major developments in the construction industry over the last 20 years, there are few architects who do not see the benefits of protecting their balance sheet with PI cover.

More recently, the Architects Registration Board (ARB) has introduced new codes of conduct, including mandatory professional indemnity insurance and minimum levels of cover.

The minimum levels of professional indemnity insurance required by the ARB are:

  • For practices with fee income up to £100,000 per annum; £250,000, excluding defence costs.
  • For practices with fee income between £100,000 and £200,000 per annum; £500,000, excluding defence costs.
  • For practices with fee income over £200,000 per annum; £1,000,000, excluding defence costs.
